Support Unit
The Support Unit at GRC Hurstville Campus provides a supportive and structured learning environment for students with additional learning needs. We currently have three Autism classes (AU) and one combined Autism/Intellectual Disability class (AU/IO), each staffed by specialist teachers and School Learning Support Officers.
Autism Classes (AU)
Our AU classes support students with Autism who benefit from small class settings, clear routines, and personalised learning. Students engage in meaningful academic, social, and wellbeing programs, with opportunities to participate in mainstream activities where suitable.
Combined Autism/Intellectual Disability Class (AU/IO)
Our AU/IO class supports students with diverse learning needs, providing targeted and practical learning experiences that build communication, independence, social skills, and essential life skills within a calm and supportive setting.
Across the Unit
All classes focus on individual strengths, fostering independence, and ensuring students feel safe, included, and able to thrive.
Support Unit Placement
Placements in the Support Unit are determined by an external Department of Education panel. If you believe your child may need this level of support, please speak with your child’s school so an Access Request can be completed with you. The external panel reviews the application, determines eligibility, and decides whether a support class placement is offered.
