Science
Science provides a practical way of answering interesting and important questions about the biological, physical, and technological world.
Why study science?
By studying science, you’ll learn to:
· appreciate and understand how solutions are found to science-related problems
· apply the processes of working scientifically to undertake scientific inquiry
· understand natural phenomena and how they apply to new situations
· appreciate the dynamic nature of scientific knowledge and how it’s used in society.
What opportunities will you get?
Science is a practical subject with experiments and hands-on activities a regular part of learning.
These activities are further enhanced through co-curricular opportunities and excursions including:
· entry to the Australian Schools Science Competition
· an excursion to Taronga Zoo in year 7 to observe the diversity of the living world
· Forensic Science experience to extend students understanding of science in society.
What will you study?
Students can study the following subjects through the science faculty:
Science (mandatory)
Year 7
· Physics: Forces and Energy
· Biology: Living Things
· Earth & Environmental Science: Earth, Rocks and Minerals
· Chemistry: Separating Mixtures
· Investigating science: Being A Scientist
Year 8
• Chemistry: Elements and Compounds
• Investigating science: Independent Research Project
• Biology: Body Systems
• Physics: Astronomy
• Earth & Environmental Science: Ecology
Year 9

Agriculture (elective)
Years 9 and 10
This elective looks at the industry of agriculture from the small to the large scale. It explores agricultural science, enterprise skills and provides the opportunity to grow products to take home. The course includes:
• Introduction to Agriculture
• Plant Production Systems
• Animal Production Systems.
Years 11 and 12
The following subjects may be available for you to study in years 11 and 12. There are no pre-requisites for studying these but choosing electives from science in years 9 and 10 can help you decide if you want to further your studies.
· Biology
· Chemistry
· Earth and environmental science
· Extension science
· Investigating science
· Physics.
