At Georges River College Hurstville Campus we offer effective careers development to engage students with leading industry partners and vocational resources.
Our aim is to promote a culture of motivation, enjoyment, collaboration and adaptability, while ensuring individual needs are met.
Students work with the Career Advisor on matters relating to education, work and life decisions, such as:
Work Experience
All Year 10 students complete a week of mandatory work experience during Term 4. Additional optional placements run during Year 9 and 10 when suitable.
Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Students may transition to full time Apprenticeships or Traineeships, as well as part-time combined with school.
Introductory TAFE courses
Year 9 and 10 students complete optional part-time TAFE courses which align with an area of interest for further study or employment.
Yr11 Subject Selection
Students receive extensive personalised guidance with choosing HSC subjects for Year 11. This may include VET subjects which are taught at Oatley Campus and TVET courses offered one day a week at TAFE.
Individualised transition support
Students receive individualised support with creating opportunities and transitioning to pathways such as apprenticeships, School Based Apprenticeships, TAFE and employment.
Information and transition events
Many events are organised to assist students with staying informed, undergoing personal development and making key decisions. These include functions at Oatley Campus, presentations from external agencies and excursions such as career expos.
Year 10 School To Work Program
Year 10 students begin the school day with 30 minute School To Work lessons. Topics include industry information, work skills, academic skills, personal development, positive psychology and online learning.
