The aim of the English faculty is to enable students to use, understand, appreciate, reflect on and enjoy the English language in a variety of texts through:
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
- Viewing
At Hurstville Boys' Campus, we provide a relevant and varied curriculum which is practical to everyday living and equips students for life.
Our yearly program would include the study of:
- Fiction
- Non-fiction texts
- Media and multimedia
- Drama (including Shakespeare)
- Poetry
- Wide-Reading
The English faculty also makes provision for Gifted and Talented students with special classes in certain years. Through the media units, Selective students work to produce the School Magazine which showcases and records events annually.
The English faculty ensures that the needs of NESB students are addressed through the provision of separate ESL classes in some years and assistance provided by specialist ESL teachers.
Opportunities are provided for students to enter debating teams and various English, competitions. Special performances by visiting artists and drama performances are arranged to complement students' studies.
