 Students selecting Music as an elective subject will study:

- the concepts of music

                - through the learning experiences of performing, composing and listening

                - within the context of a range of styles, periods and genres.

All students taking Elective Music must study the compulsory topic – Australian Music.  Students taking the 100 hour course will study one topic from each of the groups below while students taking the 200 hour course will study at least two topics from each of the groups below.

  • Classical Music
  • Nineteenth-century Music
  • Art Music of the 20thand 21stCenturies
  • Music of a Culture
  • Music for Small Ensembles

 

Group 2

  • Popular Music
  • Jazz
  • Music for Radio, Film, Television and Multimedia
  • Theatre Music
  • Rock Music
  • Music and Technology

 

No prior musical knowledge is required for this course.  What is needed is a desire to learn an instrument and participate in a variety of musical activities such as listening to live performances on excursions and participating in music performances such as camp, open night and presentation day. This will increase a student's understanding and appreciation of a wide variety of musical styles. Some of these opportunities will be outside school time.
