Physical Education, Health and Personal Development (PDHPE) is an important part of the whole school at Georges River College Hurstville Boys Campus. Physical activity is a vehicle which is used to develop physical and social skills and is also an active contributor in the developing leadership and sportsmanship. With the mentorship of specialised PDHPE teachers students are given unique opportunities to develop holistic skills that will guide boys into leaders in their chosen fields in the future.
In Health classes students are taught about contemporary health issues and how they affect the individual and the community. Students also develop a greater sense of self and examine the changes and challenges they are faced with as they ‘grow up'. Students are challenged to build knowledge around ‘Self and Relationships' and ‘Individual and Community Health'. Classes are also designed to develop skills in students such as communicating, decision making, planning and problem solving, equipping students with skills to be 21st century learners.
The faculty offers a range of opportunities for students including mandatory PDHPE classes for all students. Additionally, students can select Physical Activity Sports Studies as an elective subject in Years 9 and 10. Our PDHPE faculty also run physical education during Hurstville Essential Learning Periods (HELP) during Roll Call for Year 9. This includes opportunities to participate in cardiovascular and muscle building activities as well as Martial Arts to help develop physical and academic improvement.
